Are billing statements proper debt validation documents?

Question by grandmasterlau: Are billing statements proper debt validation documents?
Hi,

A couple months ago, I had dental work done , which I paid for at the time of service. After that, I got a billing statement claiming I owed them even more money (more than what I initially agreed to pay for). I refused to pay this and my “debt” was sent to a collections agency, whom I received a letter from. I sent a letter requesting validation of the debt and received a letter back from the collections agency with the billing statement from the dentist office attached but no where does it show I ever agreed by signature to pay the amount listed.

What are my next steps?

I appreciate all the help you can give me!

This is easy…you just show them the payment. Other than a billing statement WHAT ELSE is there to validate a debt??? The lack of our signature is irrelevant on the bill. I just got back from the dentist an hour ago and there was no signature needed.
